Fast and furious fun at one of Europe’s most highly acclaimed polo pitches.
Even if you’re not Prince Charles or James Hewitt, and even if you don’t own most of Argentina, you can still enjoy an exhilarating day out watching the ‘kings of sports’ at Sotogrande’s Santa Maria Polo Club. This is where the crème de la crème of European society come to socialise, but surprisingly spectating is free.
That said, you’ll need to partake in a few champagnes in the exclusive terrace bar where you’ll rub shoulders with at least a couple of minor royals and aristocrats to get the proper polo experience. The furious drama on the pitch and the vibrant, yet very civilised, social side of the proceedings always gets my heart racing.
Price advice:
It’s free to watch but drinks will set you back. A bottle of sauvignon blanc, for example, is about 35 euros.
Expert tips:
Should it look like it might rain, head towards the Polivalent Tent, where you can watch the match behind huge glass curtains.
