Expert review of Westminster Abbey
Welcome to 'the nation's Coronation church' where many famous royal ceremonies have taken place and the chapels and floors are filled with illustrious tombs and memorials commemorating many key figures in British history. While a visit here can make you feel rather 'processed', I always find it is rewarding. For many, the high points are Henry VII's Lady Chapel and Poets' Corner where some 40 authors are buried, starting with Geoffrey Chaucer in 1400. If you nose around you'll be rewarded with some unexpected discoveries - such as 'Britain's oldest door' (Chapter House) and eery funeral effigies of the once-so-mighty in the Abbey Museum.
Tickets cost £16 adult, £6 schoolchildren aged 11-18, concessions £13. This includes use of a somewhat perfunctory audioguide and entry to the museum.
