Best for First-time visitors - Expert review of South Bank
Walk along the south bank of the River Thames between Westminster Bridge and London Bridge and you'll behold the full glory of central London. The panoramic views are rich with iconic sights, including Big Ben, the London Eye and St Paul's Cathedral. The 1.5 mile route is pedestrian-friendly (although construction work may require a short diversion) and passes top class cultural attractions such as the National Theatre, Shakespeare's Globe and Tate Modern. My preference is to walk from west to east, finishing with a bite to eat at Borough Market (www.boroughmarket.org.uk) which is in full swing from Thursday to Saturday - although there are plenty of places to eat open on other days.
