Expert review of Cueva de los Verdes
I have a confession to make: I didn't enjoy my visit to this site, but that is only because I get claustrophobic. If you don't mind enclosed spaces, this natural wonder is a must-see. Take a one-hour guided walk through a section of the 2km (1 mile) lava cave, admiring the sculpted rock formations, some of them brightly coloured, enjoying atmospheric musical and lighting effects along the way. The cave was created, along with nearby Jameos del Agua, when a now extinct volcano dramatically erupted some 5,000 years ago. Surrounding the caves is a black, barren landscape known as malpais, which can be explored on foot.
Try to catch one of the wonderful concerts that are performed here - that way you get to see the caves and enjoy a sublime musical experience too (tickets from 15 euros).
