Expert review of Jingshan Park
This delightfully landscaped park is one of central Beijing’s only hills, and therefore the ideal first port of call to get your head around Beijing’s dizzyingly sprawling metropolis. The 45 metre high mound is actually the spoil dug out of the Forbidden City’s moat, which conveniently served as both windbreak and a barrier preventing evil spirits from getting at the Emperor in his palace. A quick slog up to the Wangchun Pavilion and you’re rewarded with panoramic views, and best of all, a sense of the quite astonishing scale of the Forbidden City, its honey yellow rooftops and antique pavilions stretching far into the haze.
Ticket prices are a snip at 3 RMB.
