Expert review of Museu Picasso
An overview of Picasso’s years spent in Barcelona.
It seems to be high on everyone’s list of must-see Barcelona sights, and the queue snakes down the street, but the Museu Picasso is really only one for lovers of the artist, or art buffs in general. There are no especially well-known works here, at least of the (mostly Cubist) sort that are massively reproduced around the world, but what there are are hundreds of sketches, paintings and ceramics from Picasso’s early years, the ones he spent in Barcelona.
A particular highlight is the set of canvases of Las Meninas, Picasso’s take on Velázquez’ painting of the same name.
Price advice:
The museum is free on the first Sunday of the month, and every Sunday from 3-8pm.
Expert tips:
Buy a carnet for 10 euros and get unlimited access, and no queues, for one year.
Arrive an hour or two before closing time for short queues and a more peaceful viewing experience.
