Best for Culture - Expert review of Van Gogh Museum
Most of the 200 or so works by Van Gogh are displayed chronologically on the first floor. You can chart the artist’s development, from early, gloomy Dutch scenes, to classic, upbeat works in Arles (such as 'Sunflowers', 'The Bedroom') before his mental health deteriorated, then finishing with the melancholy landscapes around Auvers-sur-Oise, painted just before his suicide. On the top floor, there's an extensive collection of art by other leading 19th-century painters. See the website for what's on in the exhibition wing.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. Exhibition very well laid out, taking us through the chronology of his paintings and showing us the varied influences on his style at different times of his life.
The paintings completely live up to expectations.
There's an excellent cafe in this museum - wide variety of reasonably priced, really appetising food. It makes me wonder why we can't offer this type of thing in UK museums.
An excellent museum
