Shopping in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Where to shop in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
It's here in the capital that you'll find the best shopping on Tenerife and there are several areas in which to give your credit card a good workout:
Calle Castillo is the main fashion shopping street where you'll find recognisable high street names (there's even a small branch of Marks and Spencer) alongside Spanish chains (personal favourites are Zara and Stradivarius and Pull and Bear for men) and one or two independents. Interspersed with pavement cafes, tapas bars and restaurants it's a shopper's delight.
The Meridiano (Avenida La Salle, open Mon-Sat 9am-10pm) is the biggest and newest of the city's shopping centres and incorporates over 100 retail outlets, restaurants, a multi screen cinema and the Carrefour hypermarket.
The African Market (Calle San Sebastián, open Sat-Thu 6am-2pm, Fri 6am-2pm, 5pm-7.30pm) sells a bewildering array of fruit, vegetables, flowers, herbs, spices and meat and dairy products. On Sunday mornings the streets around the African Market throng with hundreds of stalls at the colourful weekly rastro (flea market). It's a great place to pick up souvenirs and bargains.
Alongside the bus station is Spain's answer to Selfridges – El Corte Inglés (Avenida Tres de Mayo, 7; open Mon-Sat 10am-10pm). There is floor after floor of everything from newspapers to holidays and all with that exclusive label and a commensurate price tag.
