Expert review of Corton
For a splurge-worthy meal I highly recommend Corton, not only because the food is excellent but because of the recession conscious US$85 three-course prix fixe. It’s an outstanding place all round.
The menu is a delight with a real emphasis on seasonal and local produce: among the recent standouts was a squash soup with tempura mushrooms, foie gras torchon, and an excellent Black Angus fillet.
The grown-up atmosphere is a delightful break from the noise of the trendy spots, with a quiet, tranquil but bright dining room allowing you to focus on the inspired gourmet food and hear your dinner companion without straining.
Professional, unobtrusive but helpful. What all fine dining places should be.
Downtown New York.
Go with the $85 tasting menu to get a sense of Paul Liebrandt’s fantastic range without breaking the bank.
Thanks to the good design, there isn’t a bad seat in the house.
