Top beach restaurant serving fish and seafood that is a local favourite.
I am very grateful to the very well-informed author of a Lanzarote guidebook who told me about this place when I was last in Lanzarote. In fact, we met up here for coffee one Saturday morning, and I was so impressed I returned a few hours later for a very relaxed, yet memorable lunch. This place gets my 'Best for Families' vote because the kids can run around on the beach as you are ordering, and the waiters are so lovely that they make children very welcome.
Food and drink:
As you might expect from the seaside location, fish (and seafood) is the thing here. Now, we are not talking haute cuisine: this little place is not much more than a glorified beach shack serving decent, unadulterated food, local style, and I love it for that.
Recommended dishes:
I always tell people to go for the menu del dia, which is excellent value. When I was there last, this was three types of freshly grilled fish and garlic, a fairly average salad, bread, potatoes and dips - you may even find you don't have room for dessert, even though it is included.
Ambience:
Come here for the sound and sight of the sea at your feet, which provides all the atmosphere I could ever want.
Service:
This is a local hangout and the staff here speak limited English - that doesn't stop them being incredibly helpful, though, and you will find language is not really much of a barrier.
Location:
It's at the end of a bumpy dirt track (look for the sign announcing 'el restaurante') at the southern end of the beach of Arrieta.
Price advice:
It's incredible value - especially if you go for the menu del dia for 10 euros.
