Cool American style diner and grill serving up huge and hearty meals right on the water's edge.
I was thrilled when Ibiza Rocks Diner rose proudly from the shadows of the fading old Bar M, where Pete Doherty famously smashed up his guitar (now framed in pieces on the walls) at the first ever Ibiza Rocks gig. But not just for the classic rock anthems blaring from the speakers – for me, as an unashamed fan of TGI Fridays, Hard Rock Cafes and most USA style roadside diners, it’s all about the mouth-wateringly good, calorie-laden food.
Food and drink:
It’s good old-fashioned American diner style grub, full-on breakfasts, burgers (some with a twist), steaks and ribs from the grill, plus hearty salads and super sweet over-sized desserts.
Recommended dishes:
Ribs, ribs and more ribs. Try the Ibiza Rocks baby back ribs in a sticky Jack Daniels glaze or marinated in sweet and smoky barbeque sauce. A half rack is huge, but I always order a full so I can take the leftovers away for midnight munchies. The homemade coleslaw and corn on the cob are also delicious.
Ambience:
This is pure San Antonio – a combination of stag and hen parties, lager louts and young travellers "‘avin it large" on one side, and seasonal workers, DJs, serious party promoters and families on the other. It's always buzzing.
Service:
Can be a little slow at times in the bar but always efficient and friendly at the tables.
Location:
Right on the main promenade and waterfront of the area’s main beach, S’Arenal de San Antonio. Beautiful views at sunset and great people watching at all hours.
Price advice:
The menu has options to suit all budgets. Breakfast is an average of 7.50 euros, while burgers clock in at about 6.50. Main meals from the grill, including ribs and steak cost 15.95 euros, while kids meals are a mere 5.95.
Other useful branches:
Ibiza Rocks Hotel is about a 15-minute walk from the diner – the food served up in the hotels’s minimal kitchen isn’t of quite the same calibre, but it’s worth visiting on Wednesdays for the concert-style atmosphere, plus cheap burgers, chips and beer in plastic cups!
