Expert review of La Casa de mi Abuela
The name, which means ‘my grandmother’s house’, says it all. Traditional slow-cooking, generous portions and a familiar, rustic setting are what this venue is all about. No hype is needed as nowhere, in my opinion, serves better steaks in Estepona.
This is exactly how authentic Argentinean food should be. It couldn’t be fresher or less fussy. I love the empanadillas (Argentine savoury pasties) to start, and then I’d recommend the picana (a top side of rump) or churrasco (marinated spiral cuts). The South American-influenced wine menu isn’t extensive but what they do have is excellent.
There’s a lively, upbeat atmosphere in the simply decorated dining room of this converted old town house. Think exposed stone walls and creaking oak tables.
It's said that Argentinean hospitality knows no bounds. And you feel that here.
It's in a quiet backstreet on the eastern side of Estepona.
You can get a hearty meal for under 30 euros a head.
