Expert review of Chapman's Peak Restaurant
Synonymous with seafood and spiced up Portuguese eats, this iconic eatery in Hout Bay is a must for any tourist. It's conveniently situated at the start (or finish) of the picturesque Chapman's Peak Drive that winds around the coast and overlooks Hout Bay beach. It is laid back and a summertime must. There's an indoor section and a pub arm to this restaurant but, frankly, the terrace is the only place to be.
Seafood, steaks and spicy chicken. The wine list has plenty of seafood-friendly whites and some well chosen reds too.
Chapman's Peak Restaurant serves, arguably, the best fish and chips in town. Enjoy their famous chorizo and calamari pans, the trinchado (Portuguese steak) and skewered steak espetadas. I'm a fan of the calamari and prawns and I love that I can have both in a combo pan.
The atmosphere is laid back and family friendly.
Swift and competent, they're used to the crowds that descend on summer days.
In Hout Bay, across from the beach.
Main courses are, on average, 140 rand.
No bookings are taken at the weekend.
