Best for Outdoor dining - Expert review of Due South
Ever since it opened in 2003, this laidback little restaurant has been flying the flag for Sussex - it makes a point of sourcing top-quality wild, organic and free-range ingredients from within a 35-mile radius. The other reason I like it is that it’s right on the beach.
The people at Due South are particularly good with fish but local pheasant and pigeon are also offered in season - the menu changes each month. Even the wine list is air mile-conscious, with several Sussex wines to choose from and nothing from further afield than Italy or Hungary.
Due South is a simple, whitewashed space with a lovely view of the beach from the upstairs window and a few tables outside.
It's professional and efficient.
It’s under the seafront promenade, in one of the arches which used to be fishermen’s stores, close to Brighton Pier.
With most main courses hovering around the £17-£18.50 mark, it’s more expensive than it looks.
It’s well worth booking ahead for a chance to sit in the window.
