Fresh Mediterranean tapas in Bath’s best restaurant.
Same Same But Different is run by a lovely young couple– you’ll find Toni upstairs in the dining room and Rob downstairs in the kitchen rustling up beautifully tasty tapas. I come here every year for my birthday and take over most of the restaurant with a big table, but it also makes a cosy place for a chilled-out date.
Food and drink:
Good wines, beers and sangria. Specials are chalked up on the board, as are the tapas. While the tapas have a Spanish bent with tortilla, squid and chorizo featuring highly, main meals are hearty Mediterranean influenced modern British dishes.
Recommended dishes:
Pig out and have as many tapas as you can cram in as it’s all delicious. I had to order extra squid at my birthday party to avoid fights over it and the chorizo based tapas are always amazing. If they have chocolate brownie on the menu go for that.
Ambience:
Same Same is small with swirly artwork on the walls and it spills out onto the pavement in summer, which gives it a continental feel. The small dining room is dominated by the wooden bar and the ambience depends on who is in – larger parties tend to take over a bit giving it more of a party atmosphere, but otherwise it’s a cosy, chilled-out place for an informal meal.
Service:
Friendly and welcoming – everything is very chilled-out so you might find it’s a little slow if you’re in a rush, but otherwise it’s all perfectly paced for a relaxed evening.
Location:
Tucked up on Bartlett Street on the way to the Assembly Rooms, just off George Street and close to Milsom Street for shopping.
Price advice:
All main meals are £7.25-£10, tapas dishes cost £4-£5 and for larger parties there is a set tapas deal that costs £15/head and includes sangria, bread and olives, and a big selection of all tapas dishes.
