Expert review of The Maritime Hotel
This former base for sailors has been cleverly turned into a boutique hotel. I particularly like the feeling that you have your entertainment right on site including two great restaurants - one Italian and one Japanese - and a lovely, big terrace for drinks when the weather is balmy.
On the West Side of Manhattan and close to the art galleries of Chelsea, the great shopping of the Meatpacking neighborhood and only a short walk to the wonderful new Highline park.
I am not wild about the nautical design, which verges on the kitsch, but having said that the porthole windows with views of the Hudson river and New Jersey give it a great sense of place.

Some of New York's best with an especially tempting 10,000-square-foot terrace - I love having drinks and snacks here.
Two excellent eateries: La Bottega, the Italian option and Matsuri, a sexy spot for sushi.
A compact but user-friendly gym.
Very friendly staff, especially at front desk.
