Expert review of Library Hotel
A charming small hotel in Midtown with great service and thoughtful touches.
While the premise of this hotel might sound a little hokey, with rooms organized along the concept of the Dewey Decimal system, the property is actually one of the most charming in the city with roomy well-appointed quarters and public areas and great free amenities like complimentary WiFi, continental breakfast and nightly snacks of wine and cheese. Friends who I have sent there rave about this place as one of New York City’s true gems and the property really does deserve the kudos.
Location:
Right near Manhattan's Public Library (hence its name), it's a quick walk to Times Square and close to most of the city's subway and railway lines.
Bedrooms:
Organized around the Dewey Decimal system, the American mode of organizing books by subject (like Literature, Math and Science and History), and then by subcategory (Astronomy, Erotic Literature, and Asian History, for example), each room comes with volumes of interesting books to leaf through and decor is made up of dark woods with plush cream bedding. It's very comfy and the subject matter of each keep them one of a kind.

Public areas:
Drawing rooms with plush leather sofas are great for reading a book or holding a business meeting and the rooftop garden is a little known city secret.
Eating and drinking:
The hotel has just launched a new restaurant, Madison and Vine, which combines the feeling of a bistro and wine bar.
Leisure facilities:
No gym or spa but the public areas, like the "Poetry Garden," and "Writer's Den" make up for their lack.
Service:
Very warm and friendly but professional staff. The kind you want at a boutique hotel but don't always get.
