A boutique hotel charmer in the heart of downtown.
Owned by Hollywood legend Robert de Niro, the buzz on this 88-room property has been big since the beginning because of its celebrity ownership but I actually find the whole vibe and atmosphere of the place low-key and very welcoming. It's the perfect spot for stars attending the annual TriBeCa film festival but it's also a very comfortable downtown property that makes even mere mortals feel like VIPs.
Location:
Located in TriBeCa, the hotel is a great jumping off point for all of downtown, including the East and West Village and SoHo but as the surrounding area is mostly residential, one also feels a bit away from the fray.
Bedrooms:
All 88 bedrooms are individually decorated and feel almost turn of the century with reclaimed oak floors, handsome antiques and beautiful tiled bathrooms - ask for a high-floor room for a view over the Hudson river.

Public areas:
The common areas (many are reserved just for guests) are very cozy and quiet, almost like a private club (the drawing room has a charming fireplace), and are perfect for a business meeting or quiet drink with a friend full of leather sofas, old books, and tucked away corners.
Eating and drinking:
The Italian restaurant, Locanda Verde, is one of New York’s current hotspots - it can get really crowded on the weekends - the food here is some of the best in the city.
Leisure facilities:
The discreet and intimate guests-only spa, Shibui, is also a centerpiece to the property with a soaking tub and gorgeous pool using repurposed wood beams from a Japanese farmhouse.
Service:
The place is a testament to smart management with great service no matter if the client is famous or not, and the perfect balance of feeling like one is staying in a fashionable hotel but also one that one can really relax in.
