In Korčula’s pedestrian-only old town, the 18th-century Bishop’s Place and an adjoining cluster of medieval stone buildings have been made into a unique hotel comprising six residences. It’s certainly one of the most impressive hotels in Dalmatia - a real splurge, but with stylish contemporary furnishing, sensuous open-plan bedrooms with free-standing bathtubs, and slick kitchenettes, it also makes an unforgettable experience.
Location:
The hotel is in the heart of Korčula’s fortified medieval old town, on the northeast coast of the island of Korčula, served by a daily ferry from Split. Fast transfers from both Dubrovnik and Split are available too by hotel speedboat.
Bedrooms:
There are six ‘residences’ (sleeping two-seven), each in the theme of a place visited by Marco Polo on his journey along the Silk Routes. I love the way they combine the old and the new - expect medieval carved stonework, flagstone floors, and wooden beamed ceilings, played off against slick design details and funky modern furniture.

The LD Terrace restaurant lies near the hotel, next to the Venetian-era town walls, with a wooden deck under pine trees, overlooking the sea.
Eating and drinking:
Breakfast is an a la carte feast – choose from fresh fruit, oven-warm croissants, cinnamon toast, and a selection of cooked delights such as eggs Florentine (poached eggs on toasted muffins with Hollandaise sauce and spinach). During the rest of the day, the LD Terrace restaurant serves a limited choice of gourmet dishes prepared from local seasonal organic produce, with an emphasis on seafood.
Leisure facilities:
Thai masseurs are on hand for in-house massage. The hotel’s two boats - a speedboat and an elegant sailing boat – are available for private excursions (with skipper). Wine-tasting can also be arranged on request.
