Expert review of Brooklands Lodge
An entry in the Brooklands Lodge guestbook reads: “Came for a week, stayed for 18 months”. This says a lot about the place – the owners Steve and Angela know how to treat their guests. If you want soya milk with your breakfast, just ask; fancy a barbeque in the beautifully kept garden, fine; you can even bring your pet if you wish (small dogs only).
I love the grand steps up to the b&b’s front door and their “doorbell” Poppy, the extremely friendly family dog who greets guests on arrival.
In suburban Sale and just down the road from Brooklands Metro station, the b&b is well connected to the city centre and Old Trafford. Steve is a Manchester United season ticket holder and will proudly tell you that it only takes seven minutes to reach Old Trafford on the metro – you don’t have to force your way on with all of the fans travelling from the city centre as you are approaching from the other side. There is a pub opposite the b&b and plenty of dining options a short walk away.
Brooklands Lodge has eight bedrooms ranging from an executive suite to a budget single. All have an LCD TV and fridge stocked with breakfast provisions as standard, as well as personal touches such as a small plate of chocolates. The rooms are neutrally decorated with brown splashes from throws and cushions scattered on the bed, and abstract paintings on the walls. All (apart from the budget single) are en suite with lovely dual headed showers. I would opt for the executive suite every time – the bedroom has bags of space and the large bathtub is a real treat.

I love the small homely touches such as bunches of fresh flowers in the b&b’s hall and the stained glass windows. A breakfast room just off the hall is open all day and some guests choose to sit here to read the paper. Look out for a framed picture of Vernon Lodge on the wall of the breakfast room – a customer saw the picture in a local pub and discovered that it was actually Brooklands Lodge with the building’s original name.
Each room has a fridge stocked with provisions for a Continental Breakfast – this is great for solo travellers as they can sit in front of the TV in their room, in their pyjamas, while they eat. A cooked breakfast is also available (charged at £5.95), and Steve cooks this to order.
Steve and Angela are approachable and friendly, and have great pride in their b&b. If you need anything, they will go out of their way to help you.

Business guests love staying in a family house during the week with the flexibility of eating breakfast in their room, and tourists love the relaxing atmosphere at the weekend. Guests from all over the world stay at Brooklands Lodge and are attracted by the glowing reviews the b&b receives on ratings sites.
Rates are fixed and include a Continental Breakfast. Rooms get booked up two to three weeks in advance so book early. Free parking is available in the b&b’s spacious garden.
