If you're an out-of-the-box, art loving traveller who appreciates a bargain, check right in.
Daddy Long Legs was one of the world's first budget contemporary art hotels where the owners turned over a host of rooms (14 in total) to some of South Africa's emerging artists, photographers and musos. Some have since gone on to make waves in the arts arena and their rooms are a quirky reminder of their roots. I have spent a few nights here - after a concert when we checked into the Karaoke Room and after one or two evenings on Long Street when a night here was cheaper than taxi fare home - and I've loved the experience, making me feel I was living a life less ordinary. That said, if luxe is your thing, I'd suggest you look elsewhere - the luxury here is in the out-of-the-box experience and having a room on buzzing Long Street to call your own.
Location:
In the heart of Long Street, Cape Town's proverbial party strip where bars and clubs would go all night if they could.
Bedrooms:
Each room is a compact yet comfortable expression of an artist's whims - from photography as wallpaper to eye boggling montages and a denim inspired place to lay your hat. Each has a shower and quality linen.

Public areas:
There is a small lounge in the hotel as well as a moody bar and a small courtyard for hanging out but, honestly, the playground's outside (and in your room - especially if you've checked into the Emergency Room with its nurse's outfit).
Eating and drinking:
Breakfast can be eaten (it's not included) at a downstairs café but there's a veritable smörgasbord of dining opportunities from smart to street style offerings on your doorstep.
Service:
Service is efficient but can be ropy and don't expect five-star attention.
