An outstanding hotel that combines classic beauty with contemporary comfort.
It would be a tough, tough decision, but if you put me on the spot and asked me to choose the hotel I’d most like to stay in this evening then there’s a good chance I’d name the Corinthia Grand. The hotel and café was a gem that attracted the city’s poets and intelligentsia during the early 19th century. It was renovated and re-opened in 2003, and does its predecessor proud.
Location:
Located on the Great Boulevard, a short hop from Andrássy út and the bars of Liszt Ferenc tér. You can get to Vörösmarty tér in a few minutes from the nearby Oktogon metro station.
Bedrooms:
Super. There are 414 rooms in total, most overlooking one of the hotel’s pair of atriums. They are gently stylish and airy, and have bathrooms of flecked white and brown marble. All have both a bath and a decent-sized shower, as well as air conditioning and complimentary internet access. The 98 executive guestrooms give access to a plush executive mezzanine level.

Public areas:
Beautiful. The lobby is built of creamy-orange marble, and you’re met by a sweeping feature staircase. The hotel’s two modern atriums form the hub of the hotel, and complement the more classical architecture nicely.
Eating and drinking:
You’re spoilt for choice. The Brasserie Royale is the flagship restaurant, serving exquisite French cuisine, but there’s also the Bock Bistro (Hungarian food) and the Rickshaw Restaurant (Asian specialities). The Royal Café is the place for cakes and coffee, and you can head for something stronger and some live piano music in Le Bar Royal.
Leisure facilities:
The adjacent Royal Spa was originally opened in 1886; it was unveiled once more in 2006 after a painstaking overhaul. There’s direct access via a corridor from the hotel. Facilities include an atmospheric swimming pool, saunas and steam baths, a fitness room and a variety of massage and treatment rooms ranged around an upper gallery.
